Toscana Shearling Sheepskin

Toscana shearling lambskin, recognized by its long wool and luxurious feel has become a fashion must have to many. As the skins are small many garments made with toscana shearling will have a lot of seams! A full length shearling coat can take as many as a couple of dozen sheepskins. I enjoy using the toscana sheepskin for trimming sheepskin hats and sheepskin bags as it looks very pretty where the wool breaks open as it turns around the edge. Toscana Gilets with natural edges are very popular and I am also offering a collection of toscana sheepskin scarves and tippet collars with the same natural look.

Toscana Sheepskin Colours

Black and brown sheepskin are usually available in brisa and tone/tone. Many other lovely colours come and go so if you are looking for a particular colour please contact me and I’ll see what I can find at the time. Current Toscana Sheepskin Colours

Merino Sheepskin

Merino is a top quality sheepskin sometimes referred to as Spanish lamb. It is usually available to me in black and brown brisa and tone/tone. Soft, fairly large skins with a suede finish. Nappalan finish is sometimes available.

Mongolian Lamb Sheepskin

Mongolian lamb is the very long wool curly sheepskin that has become another extremely popular fashion must have for bags, scarves, collars and trimming. It is also used for cushions and rugs. The range of colors available varies but there is usually quite a good choice. I use the mongolian lamb mainly for fluffy bags scarves and trimming hats and handbags. It is sometimes available with what is known as a degrade finish where the wool is a dark shade at one end of the skin and a light shade at the other. Mongolian Sheepskin Colours

Icelandic Sheepskin

Icelandic sheepskins are often quite large allowing jackets and gilets to be made with less seams. The jungle icelandic has a mottled shaded effect in the dyeing. Unfortunately Icelandic sheepskin is not currently available to me.

Brisa Finish Sheepskin

Brisa or tipped is the term used for sheepskin to describe the light tipping on the ends of the wool that gives the attractive two tone appearance. Toscana brisa sheepskin is particularly pretty.

Tone/Tone Sheepskin

Tone/tone is the term used for sheepskin that has a solid color wool with the same shade of suede or nappalan finish.

Nappalan Finish

Nappalan finish on sheepskin is not a true nappa leather as that would be finished from the wool side of the skin. A man made nappalan finish is applied to the inside of the sheepskin to give the appearance and feel of nappa leather. This is not as durable as nappa leather and will sometimes revert to a suede finish with wear.
